Rutgers News: Tyler Clementi's Roommate Charged

      This just in ...

Dharun Ravi, the roommate of Tyler Clementi, a Rutgers student who killed himself seven months ago after a sexual encounter with another man was recorded and distributed amongst others via the internet by Ravi, was indicted yesterday on both bias and privacy crimes.
He is charged with 15 different counts including privacy and bias charges.
According to CNN, he is also charged with bias intimidation, tampering with physical evidence, and hindering apprehension or prosecution.
In September, Ravi initially tweeted that he "turned on my webcam. saw [Clementi] making out with a dude. Yay" then changed the original tweet to throw off the investigation.
According the The New York Times, the arraignment will be in the coming days, but no date has been set.
According to a CNN broadcast because there are multiple counts of invasion of privacy, a judge can mount the charges one after the other and Ravi can see more than ten years in prison, as opposed to the maximum of ten years that is being reported.
Molly Wei, who lived in the same dorm as Ravi, was also charged with invasion of privacy but was not indicted.

This has been a long time coming. I believe the Rutgers community has been waiting to see where this would end. When the arraignment comes, some will believe justice has been served. Others will think not enough has been done ... But one thing is for certain, I have never seen the Rutgers community come together like it did back in September. People put aside their differences and showed the world, we are not about Snooki or Rutgersfest 2011 or whatever else gets thrown at us ...

We are Rutgers and We are One.

For with her motto high, Rutgers name shall never die, On the Banks of the Old Raritan. (On The Banks of the Old Raritan, This version is some dude named Rick Mumma)
