Bat Babies And Weddings = Love

On Thursday I subbed for a kindergarten class and they were preparing for their career day that was taking place yesterday. Each of them needed to discuss what they wanted to be when they grew up ... and then on Friday, they were going to dress up as that occupation and come to class. They were also going to hear 5 different adults talk about their jobs.
Boy! I was super excited to hear what kindergarteners wanted to be when they grow up! We had a doctor, a cop, a ballerina, a soccer player, and a teacher. The rest was an array of very interesting answers. One kid is growing up to be Santa Claus. Another is growing up to the Easter Bunny ... We had one boy who is going to be Batman and the girl who was sitting next to him decided she is going to be Batgirl. They then proceeded to tell us that they were going to live in a cave and have Bat Babies. Another kid chimed in and said he was going to grow up and be Robin ... One girl was going to be Barbie ... Another is going to be a Barbie Teacher, whatever that means  ... We had an Evil Queen ... And a slew of Princesses.
As crazy as this all seems, I say go for Gold and reach for the stars ... Because in today's world you can be anything you want to be ... Especially a future Princess, which was proven yesterday in the exquisite Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Kate looked gorgeous as she walked down the aisle and Prince William was completely adorable as he whispered to her and her father as they all stood at the alter. He looked completely enamored with her. It was truly the cutest thing I have seen in a long time ... especially at 6 am.
What I love about this story is that it is so like a fairy tale! In that she didn't grow up thinking she would be marrying a Prince! ... Who does? Usually Princesses! ... And I'm not saying that because "she is a commoner" like people are saying ... Because, come on people! Her family are millionaires! In England, commoner just means "not royal" ... She is far from common. She frequented the most elite parties in the country and probably bumped into royalty every now and then before even meeting William ... But still, as a little girl before her family made those millions, she probably had the same Disney dreams little girls all over the world have ... And hers came true.

So, in honor of Kate, I am still holding out for my Prince Charming ... and hey, I am going back to England this summer so who knows maybe I'll even snag a real Prince ... I mean Prince Harry is still single, right? And, despite my intentions last summer ... I apparently didn't scour the country well enough to find him and make him fall desperately in love with me. Oh well ... There's always this summer.

Someday my prince will come.  Someday we'll meet again and away to his castle we'll go - to be happy forever I know. Someday when Spring is here, we'll find our love anew and the birds will sing and wedding bells will ring - someday when my dreams come true. (Someday My Prince Will Come, Disney's "Snow White")

PS. If I had the choice to choose what I wanted to be when I grow up ... I'd choose Cinderella.
