Local Fox station WNYW took a good, hard, humorous look at itself - and the local news industry, as a whole - last night during their 10 p.m. broadcast when reporter Joel Waldman covered the story we've been waiting forever to see: What's annoying about local news?
I could personally write a list a mile long about the things that annoy me about local news, but that would be just like having a 3 minute stand-up for a 30 second story, so I'm just going to get to the point and post Joel's video ... and let you take a look for yourself.
(Ugh ... for some reason the embed code is not working with me ... See the video here until I figure this out).
So, there you have it, folks. The secret is out. The people who work in local news actually know that some of the things they do are gratuitous and annoying ... and simply for ratings ... But, when it comes down to it, who doesn't like to see puppies cuddling with babies and reporters in the rain (Oh Jimmy).
Time's gonna make you a man someday and you won't want to go out and play with your friends, you'll just sit at home and watch the news at ten and the pubs will be closed and you won't have been with your friends ... (News At Ten, The Vapors)
If you are child of the 90's, you undoubtedly have an allegiance to one of the following uniformed teams - the Red Jaguars, the Blue Barracudas, the Green Monkeys, the Orange Iguanas, the Purple Parrots, or the Silver Snakes ... and it is without question that you have sat around wondering why contestants on Legends of the Hidden Temple simply could not get that silver monkey together when it was three damn pieces ...
And, yesterday, marked the 20th anniversary of the premiere of that legendary show!
How's that for a Look how old you've gotten!
So, with that, here are 5 reasons why Legends was so damn legendary!
Legendary Reasons
1) Kirk's Jean Shirt --- I am almost positive the man still wears it until this day ... or sleeps in it.
2) Temple Guards --- Any child who viewed an episode of Legends certainly had a nightmare or two at some point in their life about a temple guard jumping out of their closet and wrapping their crazy arms around them and possibly stopping them from winning a brand new, shiny dirt bike!
3) Olmec's Bad Ass Voice --- This one needs no explaining. When that giant talking rock began speaking, people shut their mouths ... and listened to the damn legends ... because Olmec commanded the damn room.
(This guy - Dee Bradley Baker - is the voice of Olmec, by the way).
Photo c/o http://www.imdb.com
4) The Silver Monkey --- No one really ever understood why none of the kids could get that silver monkey together when it was only three pieces ... but apparently it was bigger and heavier than anyone ever thought. Who knew?
Photo c/o www.tshirtgroove.com
5) Pendants Of Life --- We all knew that earning those pendants was the only way to progress through that game, and I'm sure there was some behind the scenes shenanigans between some of those kids where they tried to trade their pendants away for a few dollars ... or to get to second base with someone on the Orange Iguanas ... because, let's be honest, that team always had the hottest team members.
No matter how I try I just can't make her cry 'cause she'll never break, never break, never break, never break this heart of stone oh no, no, no this heart of stone. (Heart Of Stone, The Rolling Stones)
HOLY HECK ... It's been forever since I've blogged! Sorry for the non-bloggi-ness but thesis-ness is in full-bloomi-ness! It's due in less than SIX weeks. AHHHH. Can you believe it?!
Either way, I thought I needed to post this video for your viewing pleasure, not in jest but in pure loving fun ... because I think Tim Tebow is, well, just so freakin' God Dang adorable and cute.
Yes, I searched for the cutest picture of Tebow I could find.
Yes, I love children.
Yes, Tebow with a child makes him even more adorable.
As you already know (unless you live under a rock ... or have the sports knowledge of said rock), Tim Tebow is now a J . E . T, Jet Jet Jet, and he is super excited ... and he just can't hide it!!!
Now, let's just hope Tebow doesn't get overwhelmed by his new team and his new city and have a Jesse-Spano-like freak-out on the field ... although, not going to lie, it would be kind of entertaining (and I wouldn't complain if Zack Morris showed up on the scene either because he didn't grow up so bad if you know what I'm sayinnn').
I want to love you, feel you, wrap myself around you. I want to squeeze you, please you. I just can't get enough and if you move real slow, I let it go. I'm so excited and I just can't hide it. I'm about to lose control and I think I like it. I'm so excited and I just can't hide it and I know, I know, I know, I know, I know I want you. (I'm So Excited, The Pointer Sisters)
Seems like baby news is just blowing up the entertainment sphere these past few weeks ... First, Jessica Simpson confirmed her chub was a baby bump ... then Biebs denied he was a baby daddy ... and today, every baby sitter's nightmare came true, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar announced they are expecting ... again. Baby number 20 is on the way for the happy couple.
And, quite frankly, bitch be straight crazy.
Now, don't get me wrong - I am always the first one to congratulate an expecting couple or make goo-goo sounds and silly faces at itsy-bitsy babies but there is a point when as a couple, as a woman, you need to say that you're done. And I think after 19 kids ... and after 45 years old ... that might be it for you - and your lady bits.
I totally understand that Jim Bob and Michelle want to keep everything in God's hands and are willing to take on the responsibility of having as many children as God wills, and I respect that, but I am also a firm believer that God helps those that help themselves ... and I think we need to look at the facts - besides the fact that Jim Bob's sperm must have GPS because they always get where they are going!
She is a 45 year old woman, who already has had 19 kids.
According to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, there are risks of complications for older women because pregnancy puts new demands on a woman's body (well, maybe not new in her case ...). There is also an increased chance of high blood pressure which poses risks to both the mother and the baby. There could be problems with the placenta and with the growth of the baby. The mother is also more likely to develop diabetes, if she doesn't already have it (in which case, it will worsen). On top of all this, there is a heightened risk of Down's syndrome and other chromosomal diseases for the baby ... or pregnancy loss overall.
Is it really worth all that? I mean like I said ... God helps those. He gave us a brain for a reason, why take all those risks when you don't know what could happen with the baby or yourself? Is it really worth it - Especially for the Duggars who already have 19 kids (and a grandchild).
I don't know - I just hope that all goes well in her pregnancy and that when the time comes and she goes into labor (and that baby just slides right out of her because God knows you don't come back from 19 kids), that the baby is just fine and dandy because there were some complications with her last pregnancy, and Josie Duggar spent several months in and out of the hospital.

And you know what, even if the Duggars don't really need to worry about this ... In today's world where people are losing their jobs and money is hard to come by, people need to take care in choosing to have kids because they are basically a really expensive asset. You put all this money into them, and hopefully one day, they can be used to your advantage. They will pay for you to live in some nice retirement community or they will let you live with them ... Either way, the Duggars are apparently good with banging out kids and have the means to do it, but if you don't have the means for them ... it's not fair to bring a child (or twenty) into the world and not be able to afford them. People need to keep that in mind and not just go with the flow Duggar-style.
They, however, don't need to worry about this ... They probably get a new diaper deal with every kid that's born.
Havin' my baby. What a lovely way of sayin' how much you love me. Havin' my baby. What a lovely way of sayin' what you're thinkin' of me. I can see it, face is glowin'. I can see it in your eyes. I'm happy you know it - that you're havin' my baby. [(You're) Having My Baby, Paul Anka]
Traditional weddings and gypsy weddings, strange addictions and hoarding, little couples and couples with 19 kids ... Just some of the reasons why I, personally, cannot get enough of TLC ... And now I can add another reason to that list - the All-American Muslim, a new reality show premiering on November 13 at 10/9c.
The show features five Muslim American (or American Muslim) families - whichever you prefer - living in Dearborn, Michigan simply living their lives as ... you guessed it ... All-American Muslims (Woahhhh, I know I blew your mind with that one!).
The families on the show will consist of a police officer, a football coach, club owners, housewives, along with other business-people.
On top of taking us into their work lives, the show will also delve into the the challenges these families face when it comes issues of marriage, infertility, hijab (headscarf), inter-cultural/religious families, conversion, and the everyday lives of American Muslims after 9/11.
Despite these families thinking Dearborn is a bit more of a pleasant place for Muslims to reside, with the racial make-up of Dearborn being 86.86% white, with 33.4% of Arab ancestry, one person stated, "After 9/11, the environment was a bit more hostile."
This show will hopefully bring to light the intricacies of Muslim families, and the different types of Muslim families that reside in our country (despite them all living in such close proximity to each other). I hope that people will pick up even the slightest sense that every Muslim family is different, with their own blend of religiosity and traditionalism, with their own ups and downs, their own joys and sorrows, and with their own skeletons in their closet ... Just like every other American family.
You are the hope for our globe. Don't give up nor despair. There's nothing you can't repair. You can change this world to a better world. (I Am Your Hope, Sami Yusuf)
I cannot explain how excited I am for TLC's three part series "Big Sexy," which is premiering tonight at 10 p.m.! It follows five plus-size women who are trying to make it in the fashion and modeling industry.
They are out to show the world that the modeling industry is not just meant for size zero stick figures who are starving themselves and hurting themselves in the process ... and I like the fact that they seem to be doing it in a non-anti-thin way. They're not being haters and I'm cool with that. They are simply out there trying to make it like everyone else.
I also like that they have attitude and say what they want ... how they want! Because from I've seen in the previews, these girls can get a little raunchyyyyy so keep the kids away from the TV because as much as you may want some new role models for your kids ... These are not it. You may want to try Melissa McCarthy on "Mike and Molly" or Sara Ramirez on "Grey's Anatomy."
So, be sure to tune in tonight for a (hopefully) refreshing (and possibly sometimes) sad look into the lives of these women ... and see why "Once you go big, you never go TWIG!"
Get yourself to the Butterfly Lounge, find yourself a big lady. Big boy, come on around and they'll be calling you baby. No need to fantasize, since I was in braces, a watering hole where the girls are round and curves in all the right places. Big girls, you are beautiful. Big girls, you are beautiful. [Big Girl (You Are Beautiful), Mika]
If everyone's favorite ginger, Lucille Ball, was alive today - it would be her 100th birthday ... and I am sure she would be up on a stage somewhere making people laugh because that is what she did best.
Before "I Love Lucy," Ball starred in several B-movies as well in some stage shows. She also met and eloped with Desi Arnaz, her "I Love Lucy" husband, before the show was even conceived.
After Ball was cast as a cooky wife on a radio show and its popularity seemed to grow, the "I Love Lucy" idea was brought about ... Lucy - always her own woman - insisted she wanted to work with her husband. Although CBS did not like the idea of a mixed couple on TV, because they did not think the American couple would take it well, they agreed ... and after a couple of bumps in the road "I Love Lucy" made it into CBS's line-up and the public loved it! And still does. In the 60 years since it has aired, "I Love Lucy" has practically never been off the air, and it has been translated into dozens of languages and seen all over the world.
Top Five Reasons You Should Love Lucy
5) She paved the way for women in the television business. She was the first woman to head a production company - Desilu - which she started with her husband. After they were divorced, she did what any smart woman would do ... she bought his share of the studio and ran it successfully until it was bought in 1967 and renamed Paramount Television.
4) Even if her first marriage didn't work out, you have to admit - Lucy snagged herself a (younger) hottie. She met Desi Arnaz in 1940 and eloped the same year. He was six years younger than her. Although a divorce was originally filed for in 1944, before "I Love Lucy" even aired, the couple did not actually divorce until 1960 - and they remained close friends even after the divorce.
3) She was one hot mama. In true Lucy fashion, when she was pregnant with her second child she insisted that her pregnancy be written into the "I Love Lucy" story line because the show was having top ratings at the time and most episodes were filmed live. CBS refused at first, saying that a pregnant woman could not be on television and the word "pregnant" could not be used either. But she wasn't going to have it ... so she continued to fight ... and she won, so her pregnancy was put into the story line ... but the word "expecting" was used throughout the show, as opposed to "pregnant."
2) Despite her antics, you can identify with her character.Although Lucy was always up to some crazy scheme in order to end up in a movie, or get a job, or cross a border ... her perseverance and work ethic is something that I think (or hope) everyone can relate to. If we all went that extra mile, or put that extra thought, into our everyday lives ... I think the world would be a better place (or a funnier one, at best).
1) She was just plain funny. Lucy's humor still resonates today. I dare anyone to watch an episode of "I Love Lucy" or "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" or anything she was in ... and not laugh. Whether she was shoving chocolate down her shirt or pressing grapes with her feet or herding baby chickens back into their boxes, she was the Queen of Comedy in the '50s and '60s ... and she still is today. She knew how to be funny across cultures, ages, and time ... and that's what made her so successful.
Here are some classic Lucy moments for you to enjoy ... As well as some of my favorites.
Lucy's in London. Bridges are falling down. People are runnin' 'round and the town's upside down. With her mini-skirt on, she got in with the mod and she really became top-gear. With her motorcycle and her sunglasses and her long bright red hair ... It was Lucy runnin' wild. (Lucy In London)
"Baywatch" hunk. "Knight Rider" hottie. "Spongebob" human. (And of course, who can forget German pop star.) David Hasselhoff is a lot of things ... and soon he will be coming to a freezer near you, if he hasn't already. And I cannot wait to lick that popsicle. Del Monte Iced Refreshment released a Hoff-inspired icicle called the Hoffsicle to celebrate National Ice Cream Week after the Hoff was named 2011's smoothest TV star.
And in case anyone is wondering, TODAY is National Ice Cream Day and, for you ice cream lovers, there are some great deals. Carvel is offering one free kid's cup or cone with any adult purchase ... and Baskin Robbins is offering one cone for $0.99 when you buy any other cone! ... I just wish I could be served those cups and cones by the Hoff himself!
I am not ashamed to admit that I have some strange, unhealthy celebrity crush on the Hoff and that no food has potentially given me this much excitement since people discovered that Menthos and Diet Coke can form rockets.
I also cannot wait to go out to my local grocery store and buy these "ice lollies." I have not seen them yet, but if you happen to see them at your local store, leave a comment and let me know where because will be eternally grateful ... and I might even bake you some cupcakes.
I'm hooked on a feeling and I'm high on believing that you're in love with me. Lips as sweet as candy, your taste is on my mind. Girl, you got me thirsty for another cup of wine. Got a bug from you girl but I don't need no cure. I'll just stay affected if I can't be sure. All the good love, when we're all alone. Keep it up girl, yeah, you turn me on. I'm hooked on a feeling! (Hooked on a Feeling, David Hasselhoff)
Some people have their guilty pleasure music that they only listen to in the privacy of their own room, or through their ear buds on very low volumes ... and would never admit to anyone that they rock out hard-core to ... You know, "musicians/bands" like Justin Bieber, REO Speedwagon, Lindsay LOHANNNNN, etc. but I have no problem admitting that I rock out to all of the above and many more ... including, but not limited to, Avril Lavigne, Aqua, Air Supply, and David Hasselhoff.
I am also an extremely big fan of anyone who sings before/during/after a career on the Disney Channel or on Nickelodeon such as Hilary Duff, Selena Gomez, Ashley Tisdale, Drake Bell, Demi Lovato, and the Jonas Brothers. My newest obsession has been Big Time Rush. A boy band with four cute 20-something year-old, funny dudes who wreak mayhem wherever they go (on their show) ... I think YES.
Their first official single "Boyfriend" with Snoop Dogg (yeah, I don't know) was awesome ... But then this video for "Worldwide" was released and I was appalled and slightly offended.
Anyone following my blog knows I am on a crazed BSB high right now because I met Howie and Brian exactly a week ago today, but even if it that didn't happen, even if Backstreet wasn't proverbially back, anyone born pre-1990 should recognize a slight (and by slight, I mean EXTREME) similarity between that video and a video from BSB. Anyone remember a little ditty called "I Want It That Way?"
Four attractive men (and one man-boy ... sorry Nick, you were still pre-20-s --- Can you believe that was 1999?!?!) in a band dressed in white dancing in an airport terminal singing a song about a chick? As opposed to four attractive boys in a band dressed in white dancing in an airport terminal singing a song about a chick? The difference??? ... Oh yeah, in the end BSB has their own plane and a shit-load of screaming fans ... and BTR doesn't have the girl.
Oh well, BSB wins in the end, even if BTR stole half the premise for the video. Props to BSB, once again.
Invitation only, grand farewells. Crash the best one of the best ones. Clear liquor and cloudy-eyed, too early to say good-night. You have stolen my heart. You have stolen my heart. (Stolen, Dashboard Confessional)
Attention All FastPassTV Users ... In case you have not used FPTV in the past few days, FastPass is no more. Yep, you read that right. It is dunzo, because one of the site's "alleged" operator's had to go and get himself arrested in Ireland a few days back (although he wasn't technically doing anything illegal).
UGHHHHHH ... What am I going to do without FastPassTV to pass the time?! ... Actually watch TV!? Like on the set!? That's just crazy talk. That means I actually need to set aside the time to watch my shows. This sucks.
I have been using that site to stream everything from "Glee" to "Supernatural" to "White Collar" ... Heck, what am I saying. I stream every single show I watch on that site. I don't watch a single show on the television. The only time I watch the television is when I sit down and randomly flip through the channels ... It's never to watch my actual shows.
UGHHHHHH ... And, you know what else! I stream my movies on there too. Now I need to find somewhere else to stream my movies. Or, even worse, GO TO THE THEATRE! That's just horrible. I feel like someone has just slapped me across the face or pulled my hair out strand by strand.
If anyone has any clues, where I can start streaming my shows and movies for free, feel free to comment. I'd appreciate it because I am dying here. I need my "Dexter" fix. I am soooo behind.
If I could hear your voice just one more time, maybe I'd be fine, but I guess I won't because it's too late now and I guess you're gone because it's too late now and the pain I feel is all I can take. (How To Survive A Broken Heart, Ben Lee)
This will air in Tuesday's episode "Prom Queen" ... TEAM ZIZES!
Hate on me, hater. Now or later, 'cuz I'm gonna do me. You'll be made, baby. Go ahead and hate on me, hater. I'm not afraid of. What I got paid for, you can hate on me. (Hate On Me - Jill Scott)
I have been locked in ABP writing a paper since 4:00 ... And "Glee" starts in approximately 1 minute ... And I don't even care that it's GAGA-filled because ...
I just learned that Darren Criss will be singing "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane because Kurt is leaving the Dalton Academy for McKinley ... And that is one of the best songs known to man.
Yo. FML.
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on ... (Somewhere Only We Know, Keane)
PS. I have a feeling I will cry while Darren sings this ... I also have a feeling that if anyone gives away anything from this episode, I will go ballistic!
A 90-Minute, Lady-Gaga-Referencing, Kurt-Hummel-Adopting, Plus-Size-Loving Episode!!!
What could be more perfect than that?!?!
Well, hearing a song prior to the episode thanks to the magic of social media and the craziness of the internet, of course!!! That is, if you haven't already!!!! And seeing the preview of the episode!!!!
Lauren Zizes runs for prom queen (hell yeah!, you go girl!) ... Kurt is back at McKinley (yayaaaa! I just hope him and Blaine stay together and that story line stays strong) ... and they are getting ready for Nationals ... This super-sized 90-minute episode is going to ROCK!
If you instantly had the urge to open your window and let Sam in when you read that title, you are a true 90's TV child ... And the true 90's child in you has a reason to buzz with happy happy joy joy right about now!
Beginning this Fall, TeenNick will be showing a block entitled ... Wait for it ...
The 90's Are
The TeenNick block which will feature, you guessed it, "All That," as well as "Clarissa Explains It All," "The Adventures of Pete and Pete," "Rugrats," "Kenan & Kel," and "The Amanda Show" will air from midnight to 2 a.m. Not bad for some middle of the night TV, huh?
According to an Inside TV article, this block o'amazingness comes as a result of massive social media movements in favor of bringing back the 90's Nick shows.
This facebook group has over a million fans just begging for their 90's Nickelodeon! And I don't blame them. 90's Nickelodeon tops today's shows without a doubt.
90's Nickelodeon gave us those classic scenes and lines us twenty-somethings will never forget ... Here are just a few.
** Sam and his unusual habit of climbing in Clarissa's window
** "I don't think that's such a good idea, Tommy."
** The scene where Kenan would play a French man in the bathtub and say non-sensical things
** "Shhhh. THIS IS A LIBRARY!!!!!"
** "Dear Ashley ... That's MEEEEEEE!"
** "Hi. And welcome to THE GIRL'S ROOM!"
** Clarissa and Sam go on a date!
** Pete and Pete's Mom's Plate
Those are just some of the memorable moments and comments from the shows that will be aired in the 2-hour block on TeenNick. Despite how psyched I am for this, it makes me nostalgic for other 90's Nick favorites of mine ... considering I was never really a fan of "All That" and I don't consider "The Amanda Show" a true 90's show ... I wonder if and when they will add "Salute Your Shorts" to the line-up and, of course, "Legends of the Hidden Temple." That is an absolute must.
Oh, and I finally realized where my strange obsession with cowboys stems from.
Each and every one of those dudes on that dude ranch, except maybe Mr. Ernst, gets my heart yippee-ti-yi-yayying even 'til today ...
I've shared the past four years with Cappie, Casey, Rusty, Evan, Rebecca, Ashleigh, Calvin, and Dale and the Beav!) ... and last night I bid them a tearful farewell.
I caught up on the entire season of Greek two weeks ago, and when I checked ABC Family to see what night it comes on (because I watch all my TV online), I was appalled to see it was the season finale last night. When I saw that, I made a few annoyed Facebook comments about how this couldn't be ... grabbed my tissue box ... and then began to stream the episode.
It was all too much, too soon. And where do they get off tearing down the KT house?! ... That came out of left field. I seriously thought that when they showed the Evil Lasker the meaning of Brotherhood, with his paddle and whatnot, he was going to reconsider. Oh, I cried like a baby when the house came down. I just remembered all the good times I shared with those KT's these past 4 years ...
And poor Rebecca, you can tell Evan is still in love with Casey. Hands down ... And some stories were just never even resolved ... Like what ever happened between Calvin and Heath? ... That was just not even touched on. UGH. Seriously ...
So if any good things came out of the finale ... I'd say that I was 100% exuberant over the fact that Rusty and Ashleigh FINALLY got together because, I mean, COME ON ... Like who didn't see that one coming.
And, in the end ... Cappie and Casey ended up together ... Just like they were meant to be. <3
"... So I rushed and as luck would have it, somewhere along the way, I learned I found a family - screwed up and dysfunctional like any other family - but a family nonetheless." --- Casey <3
